Our Optometry Team

We are honored to be your family's eye doctor and vision center in Southeast Missouri

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to care for such an important part of your life: You and your family's eyesight. When asked which of their senses is most important, most people respond that it is their vision. We understand how important your eyes are to you.

Daniel R. Obermark, Cassidy D. Obermark, and Michael Penney provide specialized eye health care for adults and children of all ages in southeast Missouri with offices in Poplar Bluff and Sikeston.

We understand that most people believe that their eyes are healthy and get an eye exam for eyewear or contact lenses, but we also believe that you want trusted eye health care from dedicated professionals. Our doctors are board-certified and residency trained in ocular disease treatment including amblyopia, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, eye injuries and foreign body removal, eye infections "pink eye", and other eye conditions.

Many patients don't understand the number of diseases that can affect the eye and vision system. Frequently a patient will notice blurred vision, think they need a new prescription, and schedule an appointment when we diagnose and treat potentially blinding conditions. We have even saved patients from life-threatening eye cancers. Don’t let eye disease go undetected. Make regular periodic eye health examinations a priority.

You deserve your best eyesight possible which includes correction by Lasik, contact lenses, and eyewear. Only an expert eye doctor can determine which procedure is best for you. We will work with you to provide for your unique lifestyle.

We won't take your eyesight for granted! Schedule your appointment online or call (573) 435-3400 in Poplar Bluff or (573) 444-5200 in Sikeston.

We think you will be pleased with our personal attention to your eye health.

Dr. Cassidy Obermark

Cassidy D. Obermark, O.D.

Raised in Sikeston, I am happy to call it home and to be part of the family practice.

I completed my Bachelor of Science at Missouri State, Doctor of Optometry at the University of Missouri, and Residency in Ocular Disease at Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in 2013.

I appreciate being able to help and be a part of my community service organizations. I enjoy time with my daughter, family, and friends.

Dr. Daniel R. Obermark

Daniel R. Obermark, O.D.

Growing up in Union Missouri, a small town west of St. Louis, I wanted to raise my family in an area with small-town values where neighbors grow to know and work together.

I attended college at Oklahoma State University and graduated from the University of Missouri College of Optometry in 1990. After six years of practice with Group Health Plan a multi-specialty group with offices throughout St. Louis, I saw an opportunity in Sikeston and opened my independent practice in 1996. Later that year we expanded to include an office in Poplar Bluff.

I enjoy helping in my church and community, spending time with friends and family, and I promise to treat you and your family as our family would like to be treated.

Dr. Michael Penney

Michael R. Penney, O.D.

Dr. Michael R. Penney has been in private practice optometry in Poplar Bluff since 1987. A native of Dexter, MO and a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, Dr. Penney graduated with honors from the University of Missouri St Louis School of Optometry (UMSL) in 1987, where he was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society. Later that year, he became an associate of Dr. Robert W. Huntington, from whom he later purchased his practice.

Dr. Penney is a member of the Missouri Optometric Association (MOA), where he was on the Board for four years before serving consecutive years as Secretary, Treasurer, and President-Elect. He served as MOA President in 1999-2000. He also is a member of the American Optometric Association, as well as the Southeast Optometric Society.

In addition, Dr. Penney is one of only 53 of over 900 licensed optometrists in Missouri to be certified by the American Board of Optometry (ABO).

Dr. Penney holds the highest certifications and pharmaceutical licenses possible for optometric care, which allows him to diagnose and treat eye infections and injuries, monitor diabetic eye conditions, and provide post-operative care for cataract surgery and Lasik procedures. He also can diagnose and monitor conditions as Macular Degeneration, and also treat Glaucoma.

Early in his career, Dr. Penney donated his time, service, and materials to help persons in third-world countries as part of the Missouri chapter of Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH). He has traveled to Guatemala, Kenya, Tanzania, Nepal, Dominican Republic, and Bolivia to bring eye services to those in need.

“I thank God for all the ways I have been blessed…to be in a profession where I can truly help others on a daily basis,” says Dr. Penney. “The gift of eyesight is so precious, and so many unfortunately take that gift for granted until it is threatened or even gone. My job is to preserve that gift for others”.

Dr. Penney and his wife, Karen, reside in Poplar Bluff, where they raised their two children, Michael and Caroline. He is a member of Temple Baptist Church. In his free time, he enjoys reading, studying World War II history, and enjoys participating in parades and WWII reenactments utilizing his restored historical vehicles.
