Eyeglass Prescriptions at Dr. Obermark Eye Health Care in Poplar Bluff & Sikeston, MO

Personalized eyeglass prescriptions correct refractive problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia associated with aging, enabling you to see clearly at all distances. Early identification of eye problems is also a key focus during these tests.
Patients with blurred vision or focusing problems may benefit from prescription glasses provided by Dr. Obermark Eye Health Care. Our eye doctors in Poplar Bluff MO and Sikeston MO conduct a comprehensive eye test, including visual acuity testing, retinoscopy, and computerized refraction, to determine the exact eyeglass lens power required.
Comprehensive Eye Exams
Our full eyeglass examination involves several key steps:
- Visual Acuity Test: We will have you read letters on an eye chart to assess your ability to see clearly at various distances. This provides a baseline for any vision correction you might require.
- Retinoscopy & Refraction: The physician uses a retinoscope to shine a light into your eye as you stare at an object, determining an initial estimate of your prescription. A phoropter (an apparatus containing various lenses) is then employed: you glance through it at a chart and signal which lenses best make your vision clear. Through substituting lenses and noting your reaction, the precise eyeglass prescription is established.
- Eye Health Test: During the test, we employ tools such as a slit lamp (a lighted microscope) to examine the front and rear of your eye. This enables us to identify typical disorders (such as cataracts, macular degeneration, and diabetic changes) that could impact your eyesight or require medical attention.
This comprehensive procedure guarantees that your eyeglass prescription not only corrects your eyesight but also maintains your total eye well-being.
Lens Choices & Technology
After your prescription has been determined, we have a variety of innovative lens materials and technologies available to fit your lifestyle:
- Single-Vision Lenses: Focus one vision field (distance or near) across the entire lens. A good choice if you mostly wear glasses for distance or reading.
- Bifocals: Two very different prescriptions (usually distance and near) divided by a visible line. Bifocals can be an excellent choice for patients requiring both reading and distance correction, but do not want the hassle of a more complicated lens.
- Progressive (No-Line) Lenses: Progressive multifocal lenses provide a seamless transition in vision from distance to intermediate to near vision without visible lines. Progressive lenses enable you to view clearly at all distances (driving, computer, reading) by progressively altering the lens power. They eliminate the jump in vision created by conventional bifocals.
- Anti-Reflective Coatings: These coatings are applied to lens surfaces to minimize light reflection and reduce glare. Anti-reflective (non-glare) coating nearly eliminates reflections on your glasses, enhancing clarity and cutting eye strain. They also cause your lenses to become almost invisible in photographs and at night.
- Photochromic ("Transitions") Lenses: Automatically darken in intense sunlight and become clear inside. Transition lenses block 100% of UV rays and reduce glare without the need for an extra pair of sunglasses. They come in gray or brown colors (and even funky colors) to fit your personality.
- Computer/Digital Lenses: Specific "office" lenses can be designed for use with computers and digital devices. They center more on the intermediate area where you look at screens, which helps decrease digital eye fatigue and strain.
- Lens Materials: We utilize high-quality lens materials tailored to meet the specific needs of every patient. Polycarbonate and Trivex are lightweight, impact-resistant materials that are great for children, athletes, and safety glasses. High-index lenses can be made for extremely strong prescriptions, resulting in thinner, lighter glasses. All lenses can be coated with scratch-resistant and UV-protective coatings to enhance their durability.
